A busy night
Tuesday night was a busy night at the Bowburn Community Centre for club members. We had a good turnout and are beginning to see some real progress in some projects.
One member brought both his stick handles along and they are looking really beautiful now after months of hard work. They both depict drake's heads and are very ornate. I think he is close to finishing them and we await to see the finished goods with trepidation. Another is still working on his depiction of life at the coal face and is busy with the fine detail. Having spent some of his working life on the coal face he is bringing some real feeling to his project. One of our lady members is busy converting a motorhome and is carving some very ornate table legs in oak. They will make a stunning addition to her van. I myself am working on a rather complex floral platter in mahogany. I did not realise how complex this would be when I started as it is a large chunk of wood and mahogany is tricky to carve, but I will persevere. We have other members working on a hedgehog, a small Celtic cross, a floral display and a large Celtic cross inlaid with granite stones from the Isle of Iona which they have cut and polished themselves, to fit their design.
All in all, there is some great work going on and our new members are progressing really well. We look forward to welcoming any new members who would be fully mentored and have full use of club tools whilst they are learning,. Come and give it a go.
Good idea to have a commentary re the work that members are busy with, because all too often we don't get to see the finished versions
